Dancing Queen

Enough serious thought for now...I need to let some of this fire and water stuff marinate...too much reasoning doth make me mad....lol

I heard Dancing Queen on the radio this morning on the way in to work.....ahh memories. Went to see Mamma Mia a couple of years ago. It is a Broadway play written solely around Abba songs...if you don't know who Abba is...well I can't get into all that...haha
anyways...back to the memories...
I got the worst sunburn of my life while listening to Dancing Queen. I was 18, a newlywed and had just moved to Pensacola Beach Florida...need I say more. I thought I was gonna die.

I remember first seeing advertisements for Mamma Mia while in Germany 5-6 yrs ago. I couldn't read the posters covering the subways and bus stops but I could recognize Abba. That was a fun trip.....we ate sausages with rolls and mustard from the huge market in Frankfurt and walked along the Rhine river. It was lovely day and there was some sort of street fair going on. Our friends took our pictures and later we went to the Rembrant exhibit at the local museum.

funny how music tranports to another time and place. guess that's why couples have "their" song and such.

Do you have memories tied to specific songs? I have about a million...but I'll spare you...

Hi Jada's Gigi, thanks for coming to my blog and leaving all those kind words. I like Dancing Queen too and Abba music even though I only knew the group when they're no longer a hit!

Just wanted to stop by to say hi. Came by the other day but Blogger wouldn't put my comment through, so I'm back:-) Enjoyed reading your recent posts and reflections.

I love music. Certain songs take me back to times I loved, and times I'd rather forget:-) Yes, and I remember Abba quite well.

Hey, thanks for the memories!

hugs,
Vicki

Painful Sunburn on Honeymoon - Not a good thing! ;)

Its amazing to me how a song can transport us back in time as if we were there again....

My dh and I liked John Denver songs when we first got married almost 26 years ago. His song, Annie's Song was played at our wedding ... and we had a cassette tape of his music playing while driving up the scenic Pacific Coast Highway on our honeymoon, Ahhh! Memories in song.

Dancing Queen reminds me of my and hubby's dear friend. When his sister joined him at college she told all his friends that they had been at a wedding where that song was on and he was the only one out on the dance floor just rockin out. He was 16! not, like, 5. I had it played at our wedding just for him ;)
Every song carries memories for me. The only problem is now that Dancing Queen is stuck in my head, I can't think of any others!

Every song I hear or have heard seems to hold some sort of memory for me. Whether its the theme from American Bandstand when I was a kid or Motown music which I love or praise and worship which touches my soul..it all has a purpose and place and time. It's a love that never grows old.

Since I am a HUGE music fan I tie a lot of songs to moments...and yes I remember Dancing Queen...I even have their greatest hits album (sad I know)...Would love to see that Mama Mia show...looked so good. Would love to travel abroad...(of course sedation to get me there would be a must). The most memorable song to me would have to be my wedding song, which was Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting For You"...love that song.

Abba has always been one of my husband's favorite groups.....I think it has to do when he was stationed in Belgium all those years ago.

You were talking about tanning and I remembered how I would lean my big old stereo against the screen in my bedroom window, put on a vinyl record like Wheel in the Sky by Journey and go out into the backyard to lay on my aluminum tanning blanket on top of my lounger. My friends were always there because we had a pool and we fried ourselves that summer. WE made the neighbors mad with the music, but we had good times!

Dancing Queen has been running through my head ever since I read this post HOURS ago.... thank you very much. ;)

Music has the ability to evoke many memories. I have songs associated with everything!!

Strange one...it was the summer of '78 and Gerry Rafferty had the huge hit, Baker Street. Every time I hear that song, I'm transported in my mind to the employee lounge at the McDonalds where I worked the summer before college. I was wearing a bright lime green polyester uniform which absorbed the smell of the lard that was used (then) to fry the french fries. Baker Street = French Fry grease to me!

As a singer, I am now, not only hearing the song...I am actually singing it OUT LOUD to MYSELF!! Funny!!

Dancing Queen always makes me think of my two cute girls who are ALWAYS making up DANCES to songs they have...and then making the WHOLE family watch them dance & sing to those songs when we have family get togethers - FUN STUFF!!

I'm finally getting over here to thank you for stopping by my place the other day. Of course I remember Abba. Loved them.

I could never list all the music I associate memories with - different music in every stage of my life, starting with Elvis and Connie Francis, moving on through my hippie era in the 60's and 70's and on to country when I met my husband. The music that moves me most now is probably Springsteen. Oh! And (no laughing) Hawaiian music. I LOVE Hawaiian music.

Ah, the days of Abba...does that seem like a lifetime ago? But they had a great sound. (Did you know Silverwind? Different genre, but same sound.)

I agree with Vicki: some songs have good memories, and some not so good...ahh life.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. It's great to make your acquaintance!

Music defines each generation in a way that nothing else does. Or is it the music is defined by the generation? My generation (and apparently that of some of your readers) was defined by Viet Nam, three assassinations, drugs, free love, hippies, and the Beatles. Our memories are so interwined with the music that we can have flashbacks after hearing just the first bar.

Nice blog. Got here by way of Barbara.

The first time I ever heard "Draw Me Close" at my NOW church, wasn't at the time. I was so far from God I could barely hear His voice, but in that very moment, I heard Him calling me so loudly that I just asked Him to comfort me, I was sorry for my choices, and He drew me so close, I don't ever want to leave.

I have fond memories of Dancing Queen. My mom and all her cousins whenever they got together would sing and dance to this song. To this day they still play it at family reunions. Whenever I hear the song I think of that side of the family. Ah good times.
