That's Entertainment!

Found myself in a large church meeting in a large building on Sunday....You know ministers are taught early on to have a joke or two intertwined in the sermon.....I suppose ministers these days feel the need to entertain, our entire culture is geared toward entertainment ...and the whole service was certainly quite entertaining to me. (so maybe I'm a teeny bit cynical...LOL)

Here's the joke from the pulpit this past Sunday...drum roll please...

"Hey guys, have you heard about that new cologne that's guaranteed to drive women wild?....

It smells just like Wal-mart!!"

Well, being a Wal-Mart junkie I perhaps should do a google search for that particular fragrance for the times I can't just "stop in and get a few things" :)

Ha, Ha, Ha ... was he really trying to be funny? (lol) And Walmart drives me nuts ... not wild. But there definitely is some entertainment value when shopping there (lol).

Is it just me...when did jokes become a prerequisite to making a sermon "entertaining"? I like to laugh as much as the next guy - maybe even more, and I guess small doses are fine, but I see a trend toward churches becoming a little too user friendly. Is it just my age? Maybe. It's always good to get the views of others though, helps you put it all into perspective.

ba dum bum....

Laughter is IMPORTANT, but I pray that the "church" takes preaching the GOSPEL seriously!

I hear ya - we started our church in my living room with 13 people and 10 years later, there are way over a 1000 walking in the doors. REALLY want them to go elsewhere. It is just overwhelming...

The one who come up with a Walmart fragrance is going to be a rich man...
