Spring Traditions

This weekend I partook in the time honored tradition of clothes swapping....
Maybe its a southern thing...I'm not really sure...but every spring and every fall...for as long as I can remember...my family has devoted some time to getting all our spring and summer clothes and shoes out of storage, and putting all our fall and winter things away for the season. Its really kind of fun...you find lots of goodies you had forgotten you owned....throw out things you never wore over the winter...and feel almost as if you have been shopping, after all you now have a whole new wardrobe! I used to do this for all my kids every year, weeding through the things they had outgrown or the things that were just too awful to keep another day .... Now my closet is full of lovely bright crisp spring and summer things and my sandals are all prominently displayed in the closet floor and I have a large bag of goodies for Goodwill...I even went through my jewelry!
Now the house and yard are calling...begging to be dusted and scrubbed and mowed and trimmed...and the car...boy does it need washing, as it is coated with a thick layer of pollen....still more spring traditions that I am trying to get to....these things and March madness too?...surely it really is Spring!...Oh yeah, now to get those annuals planted....
What things do you do around your house to mark the arrival of spring?

You don't even want to know what I do around here to mark the arrival of spring. It's nuts. Because I start by tearing my house apart.

No matter how I try, I accumulate clutter and it makes me crazy so out it all goes.

You're so lucky to be able to plant annuals in March. We don't dare plant anything until the beginning of May because her in Colorado, this time of year is tricky. It can easily be in the 70's one day and snowing the next.

I think, like most people, I just go onto a spring cleaning tear, inside and out. And it always feels wonderful to start summer with cleaned out closets, a clean house and the yard in good shape.

I love the clothes thing, too! Altho, it is still a bit early here in Michigan for the sandals...we usually have a few weeks that we have to choose between sandals one day, winter coat the next.

Yard, can't wait to get out in the yard!!

Not time for the complete clothes changeover here in Ohio, either. We had on sweatshirts this morning, and now short sleeves. By the weekend, we have chances for rain/snow mix junk. It's not really spring here quite yet!

Too early for putting out flowers, too, though I'm getting the itch for sure!

I folded all my sweaters into a neat pile, but I'm not quite ready to put them away for the season. I love attic shopping - everything seems new with each new season, and what doesn't is going to the Goodwill!
As for cleaning - I'm having those dirty furnace ducts cleaned first and foremost...then on with curtains, bedding etc! A time for a fresh start after an endless winter!
Too soon for flowers here, but not to soon for planning what to plant!

Oh what a fun tradition Cheryl! I love this! I'm going to steal it from you : )Also, thanks for the inspiration to plant flowers. Fun, fun. Now all we need is sun, sun.

Today is the first day of the kids Spring break and the weather was very springy! We had karate and then celebrated at Krispy Kreme donuts!!!. The week is chock full of events - so much fun to be had.
I don't have any Spring rituals. Maybe that is because it can be 70 and beautiful and in 10 minutes, it can be snowing. The biggest thing is the lifting of the winter blah - that is my ritual. Since I am not a clothes or shoes person, the only change is that whatever season, is in the front. I do have a unclutter gene and get ready for our annual year sale. I think that is about change instead of season. I have a garage full of stuff that no longer "fit". Can't wait to declutter!!!

I love clothes swapping! I've done it more in the winter than spring though! I'm busy cleaning out all of my stuff right now as well!

Nope, not just a southern thing..us northerners switch out the wool and long sleeves for cotton and shorts, only we do later than you..spring hasn't quite arrived here yet, though today was warm and sunny...here's hoping that it's here soon!!
Enjoy your gardening and spring cleaning.

I did the clothes swap last week. Actually, it was only a physical trade of location. I still need to try the new stuff on. You know me...I hardly ever get rid of anything! The other spring tradition...lightening the hair and starting work on my tan! I'm a little rosy today. Gotta love FL!

A wonderful posting with delightful photo's too.

I guess wee men have the advantage of placing our one and only sweater in a little corner of a cupboard until next autumn.

I must admit I feel guilty too - my car is in need of a wash - but the weather is so beautiful I just have to enjoy it - hence my "spring walk" post.

Yes, it is that time of year isn't it??? I just did this very same thing last weekend!!! BTW...thanks for your sound and wise advice on my last post...it was one of those days and you said what I needed to hear....I wish I could have a dozen bottles of 'grace' in my fridge...so when I felt dehydrated I could grab one and go...yes, I realize I should grab my bible instead...I need a more compact version for on the run ;) Thanks again!

For us here in New England, the ticks have wasted no time in coming out and latching on to the dog. I can't wait to get out of here.

I never switch my clothes. I never did that as a kid and so I guess I don't do it now...

I went completely barefoot yesterday at Youth Group, I hate shoes and I as one happy girl!!

I don't switch out clothes, but I do switch out decor for the house for each season.
Each season is like a house make over.

Of course flowers, flowers and more flowers (and veggies:)outside.
I love Spring and Fall, my favorite seasons.

Happy Spring to you :)
Deborah

Well, we are in the whole house make over with the kids moving in. Painting, new carpet, new blinds, and now I have to get to the clothes.

Mostly, I can't wait to put the flowers out, but of course in Michigan it is mid to the end of May before they recommend putting them out. Flowers always brighten my day. They are just one of God's wonderful creations. I'm SO thankful for everything He created!
