Hearing the words

For sometime I've been wanting to start regular postings of song lyrics. As some of you may have picked up on, I love songs and to sing. To me, songs express the deepest thoughts and emotions that I myself have no words for...and I'm pretty darn wordy...:) I think that in our society we take very little time to really hear most songs, to realize their point...especially ones we have sung for years because they are catchy or cute or are just traditional. Perhaps if they are printed out in front of us, maybe in a context we had not thought of before....they can really speak to us and we can grasp their true meaning. Words are powerful things and I would just like to take this opportunity to give some powerful songs their due. I'm going to steal an idea from a fellow blogger and try to have a regular lyric post each week. If anyone thinks of a catchy name for it like WBW or something let me know. :)

Here's my choice for this week:

Hark, the herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!" Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled. Joyful all ye nations rise, join the triumph of the skies. With the angelic host proclaim "Christ is born in Bethlehem". Hark, the herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!"
Christ, by highest heaven adored, Christ the everlasting Lord. Late in time, behold Him come, offspring of the favored one. Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see, hail the incarnate deity. Pleased, as man with men to dwell, Jesus, our Immanuel! Hark, the herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!"
Hail the heaven born Prince of Peace, hail the Son of Righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, risen with healing in His wings. Mild He lays His glory by, born that man no more may die. Born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth. Hark, the herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!"

Amen...music, at least for me anyway, has always gone deeper in me than just hearing a rhythm...it goes so much deeper and it's the lyrics that truly are the heart of a song. LOVE IT!! And yes...Glory to the Newborn King!

Wow, Cheryl! Thank you for doing this! I've never seen the second verse before. Amen and Amen to the whole song!

I love that line in the first verse, about how Jesus came to reconcile us to God. It always makes me so happy to think about how Jesus did all the work and so now I can always be close to the God of the universe. I love being reconciled to HIM!

It's hard to mistake the meaning of that song. Enjoy it while you can, because liberals will enact legislation to take out all it's reference to Christ so that it won't offend non-Christians. Not much would be left.
