Superbowl past.....

It is amazing how much the Superbowl weekend has become a huge event in American culture...its like a non-holiday....I was out shopping yesterday and the closer it got to time for the game the more deserted the stores and roadways became...strange but kind of nice too...in a snow day kind of way...for me its sort of nice to think of thousands of Americans all doing basically the same thing, celebrating basically the same way...Its cool to be a part of the culture as a whole and like thousands, dare I say millions of other Americans, I spent the weekend chillin, running errands and watching Peyton Manning and company win their rings...Yay for Peyton! Isn't he just the most endearing thing? and isn't Tony Dungy a fine brother...always giving glory to God...even when the press tried to make his appearance and his win something racial...he made sure that everyone knew that while, yes, he was proud to be the first African American coach to win a Superbowl...that was not the most important thing...the most important thing to him was that God get the glory...and while personally I don't think God gives a hoot who wins the Superbowl...He certainly cares about His testimony and Tony Dungy did Him proud...He was clear that he is a Christian first...and a black man second...I couldn't be prouder of a brother in the Lord.

Now on to the fun stuff...
Which commercial did you like?? hmmmm?
I liked the Blockbuster one with the rabbit and guinea pig trying desperately to order a movie using the mouse...LOL...too funny!

And I liked the careerbuilder.com commercials...all of them...depicting how brutal it can be in the work place...it really is a jungle out there....:)

I thought all of the Budwiser commercials were totally stupid...except for the Paper, scissors, rock one...stupid but funny...who can't laugh at the guy actually throwing a rock and knocking the other guy out to win the beer.

the K-fed one wasn't too bad either...gotta appreciate people who can poke fun at themselves.

Did you watch?
What did you think?

We watch the SB ONLY for the commercials!!! I was scrapping at the same time and I only caught the end of it but the one with Oprah and Letterman was my fav. I don't even know what they were selling but I'm in!!!

Didn't watch ... but I would like to have seen the commercials. Decided to take the kids out to Applebee's for lunch. Dh watched the game 1400 miles away at his mom's. "Every party needs a pooper" ... I'm the biggest party pooper around :)

I actually watched the SB by myself. I had invites to a couple places, but the artic blast we are experiencing here in MI made me want to dig in and stay warm. I hardly watch sports now that I am divorced, but I must say...I enjoyed it!

Hello Cheryl's Treehouse, Just coming by to take a look at your blogg. It's so encouraging, in a world that needs some, to see here with other Christian Women online, God is headlined above whatever else is going on.

I had to ask Rob who was playing Sunday morning. We don't have cable. I didn't grow up in a football house and I guess we won't be bringing our kids up in one either. Certainly not necessarily by choice but just never really enjoyed football : ).
It's soccer in our house for the most part (or what the rest of the world calls football). But I do agree, I love the culture of it all. I have to say, I love superbowl parties (wierd huh?) but I'm always the one chatting and not paying attention to the game.

No, I did not watch the super bowl, I'm not a football fan.
I didn't watch any commercials either.
I guess I'm out of the loop with this one :)

Well, first I have to tell you that we totally blew it on the time and missed the opening ceremonies and half of the first quarter. I'm sorry to report that I do know, now, how SPAM was invented because we were watching the History Channel. Did you know the S and the P stand for shoulder pork?

Anyway, I'm thrilled with the outcome because I have so much respect for Tony Dungy. In addition to everything else about him that is so admirable, I love it that he doesn't raise his voice at his players and he never curses.

My favorite commercial was the Bud commercial where the two gorillas were trying to shanghai the beer delivery and blew it when the one gorilla smiled at the camera. For the most part, I didn't think the commercials were as good this year as they normally are.

I know what you mean - it is very cool to feel like you are "part" of something so many are doing at the same time!!! I didn't watch this year but am hoping to find some of the commercials on Youtube!!!

Nope...I missed it all...I was in here doing my blog visitations and heard my Hubby in there laughing and I think it was at the mouse commercial that's what he said anyway!

We watched, of course. I was happy for Peyton, but kinda sad for Rex. I hate that he's caught so much crap this season. I mean, didn't he QB their 13-3 season? Didn't they win the NFC? You don't do those things with a lousy QB. He even seemed to revocer from his mistakes ok...only to have the weather cause another one.
I did like the commercials. I liked the slap in the face on. I liked the K-Fed one. Did you see the Doritos one early on? With the guy who gets in a wreck watching the girl on the sidewalk. I thought it was funny. And those you liked too...
I liked the half-time show! I thought it was fun and exciting. They found a way to play it safe and still be cool! (Don't know if you know, but Prince became a Jahovah's witness and doesn't do his old, more vulgar stuff anymore.) I just wish they would go back to the fun collaborations, like Aerosmith and NSYNC, featuring Nelly, Mary J Blige, and Britney Spears...or U2 with No Doubt. It gets kinda long watching the same act. He was definitly an improvement over recent years.
And of course, you can't beat Tony Dungy! Go Colts!

Didn't watch...but the commercials are usually the highlight...would have liked to have seen them...oh well. Hubby luckily isn't much of a sports fan...though we did get 2 movies watched last night...that is a rarity. Glad you had time to chill.

i did watch some. my girls SO wanted to watch and love it b/c their dad is a football fanatic to the extreme, but after awhile they lost interest. Oldest said, "i thought it would be fun, but it was boring." tehehehe

BUT, i did see that mouse commercial and LOVED it! and i saw the rock paper scissors one, too - very funny. then we turned of the tv and i didn't see any of the rest.

kinda sad, in a way. i learned to love football from my ex, and the superbowl is always great fun!

Hey there, friend. I didn't watch the game--hubby did, though. I loved the sound bites when folks are giving God the glory, though! That's what I call awesome news-reporting...LOL....

We're settling in since my husband's mom's funeral. Digging through the treasure of all our old family photos. Poor thing---hubby had to report to jury duty the day after the funeral.

Blessings to you,
Vicki

Had a super bowl party going on over here. Thought Price and band might get electrocuted while singing Purple Rain! Now that would have been a half time show!
Not a sports fan - more a fan of the family being over. We did have the super bowl of food going on though - whew!
